Media Borough Considering an Open Space Planning Process

At last Thursday night’s (April 4th) Borough Council Workshop meeting, Councilman Peter Williamson presented a proposal to hire a professional land use planner to lead a process for developing a comprehensive Open Space Plan for Media.

Councilman Williamson stated that the planning process would include consideration of the status of the Broomall’s tract, given that the 12-acre property is the largest area of unprotected open space in the Borough.

Although the Councilman suggested that the idea for an Open Space Plan had long been in the works, we suspect that the pending delivery of 500+ signatures on Keep Media Green’s petition moved it from the back burner to the front burner.

Keep Media Green is supportive in principle of the concept. We would endorse a fair, participatory, timely, and transparent planning process for developing a comprehensive Open Space Plan for Media, but we need to learn more details and wait for the full Council to approve the proposal.

We anticipate that this proposal could be on Borough Council’s agenda on April 18th.

We need to color Council Chambers green that evening, so they understand the depth and breadth of the support for rezoning the Broomall’s tract from Residential to Recreational (MERC).

If you have not already RSVP’d to attend the Council Meeting on the 18th, please do so soon.  You can register for the event here or email terry@greenseedsgrants.com

Thank you!
