Open Space Plan Adopted!

On November 18, 2021, Media Borough Council voted unanimously to adopt the Media Open Space, Parks, Recreation, and Bicycle Routes Plan that was developed over a nearly two-year period with input from approximately 1,000 people.
Keep Media Green applauds the Plan’s adoption by our Council and enthusiastically endorses the entire Plan, particularly the Action Plan for Open Space that calls for the Borough to invest $3 to $10 million dollars over the next three years to acquire as much of the remaining 23 acres of open space in Media as possible.
Keep Media Green is committed to collaborating closely with Borough Council, the Media Environmental Advisory Council, other environmental and park groups in the borough, and with our fellow residents to implement the Open Space Action Plan with the urgency that the Plan so strongly articulates.
Highlights from the newly adopted Open Space Plan include:
¯ Unprotected open space in Media is dwindling and quickly being bought up by developers…Media is at a critical juncture.
¯ The residents view open space as their top priority as indicated in the community survey, interviews, public meetings, and Plan Advisory Committee.
¯ The Borough should acquire and protect remaining open space, with priority on the largest parcels (e.g. 13.8-acre Broomall’s tract), over the next three years (2021-2024) by investing $3 million to $10 million with additional grant support of $1 million to $3 million.

While we sincerely appreciate the decision by our elected officials to adopt the Open Space Plan, Keep Media Green also wants to CELEBRATE the active engagement of KMG’s 600 supporters in the public meetings and public opinion survey that shaped the recommendations in the final Plan.
Congratulations! YOU are making a difference in the future our town.
However, there’s no rest for the weary…because a plan without implementation is like planting a tree and then abandoning it to wither and die…without mulching, pruning, watering, and LOVING that newly planted life form.
